3D Printer Filament Cabinet

3D Printer Filament Cabinet

This project was inspired by this Reddit post:

Finally got a place for all my filament spools

Planning my own cabinet, I took heavy inspiration from this bookshelf: https://www.woodshopdiaries.com/the-mom-saga-continues-how-to-build-a-bookshelf/

A cutlist was made, material purchased (solid red oak and red oak plywood), and the stock was cut to size.

With the pieces all cut, it was time for assembly. Pocket screws in the invisible spaces, glue in the visible ones. The cabinet is trimmed with a combination of crown moulding and cove moulding.

For the finish, I went with clear Rubio Monocoat and it gave the red oak a very nice color.

To aid in humidity management, the cabinet got a clear acrylic door with integrated temperature/humidity meter.

Wooden dowel hangers were modeled and 3D-printed, then dowels were installed to hold the filament spools.

To add some pop and prevent the cabinet from looking like a dark cave, I added some LED rope light from IKEA. Some swing latches and filament rolls and the project was complete!
