ePaper Weather Frame

ePaper Weather Frame

This project was inspired by the following HomeAssistant project:

Use ESPHome with e-ink Displays to blend in with your home decor!
Weatherman Dashboard for ESPHome I have multiple dashboards around my apartment and they display different information depending on the context. Since this is placed near the front door, it contains concise information for what’s outside with a homey style to match the rest of the wall. This is part of the ecosystem for my Home Assistant configuration. madelena posted about their ePaper photo frame which displayed weather and train schedules. I don't take the train but I do like knowing the weather, plus I wanted an excuse to play with an eInk display.

The project started (as most do) in Fusion360:

A WaveShare ePaper display was purchased on Amazon, along with an ESP32-C6 and a WaveShare header.

The Environment Canada integration for HomeAssistant was installed, providing the datasource for ESPHOME.

An ESPHOME project was created, combining code from a variety of sources as well as some of my own.

The frame was 3D-printed and assembled. Power is provided by USB-C. The ESP32 connects to HomeAssistant regularly and refreshes the eInk display with weather info. A very cool project and fun introduction to ePaper displays.
